Booking

How does booking work?

A booking is a request, not a purchase. When you send one, we place a hold on your card for the amount shown. Nothing is charged until the creator accepts. If they decline or do not reply, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

  1. 1Open a creator or service and pick a time.
  2. 2Add a note if there is anything the creator should know.
  3. 3Review the total and send your request.
  4. 4You will hear back in Messages when the creator answers.
What will I pay?

The creator's price, plus an Around service fee of 15%, plus sales tax. Bookings under $50 also carry a flat $2 fee. Every line is shown at checkout before you confirm, and that total is exactly what you are charged. The smallest booking on Around is $25.

How do I talk to a creator before booking?

Use the Message button on their page. Keep conversations and payments on Around so your booking is covered by our policies.

Cancellations and refunds

Can I cancel a booking?

Yes, any time, from the booking itself. We show you exactly what comes back before you confirm.

  1. 1Go to your bookings.
  2. 2Open the booking.
  3. 3Tap Cancel and choose a reason.
  4. 4Check the refund amount and confirm.
How much do I get back?

Before the creator accepts: everything. After they accept: a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of booking and the session is more than 48 hours away, otherwise 50%. Within 48 hours of the session, nothing, because the creator has set that time aside. If the creator cancels, you always get a full refund.

When will my refund arrive?

Refunds go back to the card you paid with. Banks usually take 5 to 10 business days to show them.

Safety and what we allow

What is not allowed on Around?

Fake pages, pretending to be someone else, hateful, explicit or abusive content, anything that puts someone at risk, and asking to be paid outside Around. We suspend accounts that break these rules.

How do I report a page or a service?

Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Report. Tell us what is wrong. The creator is not told who reported them.

Someone asked me to pay outside Around. What should I do?

Do not pay. Payments outside Around are not protected by our refund policy. Report the page so we can look at it.

Becoming a creator

How do I start selling on Around?

Apply with a few photos of your work and some details about what you offer. We read every application.

  1. 1Send your application.
  2. 2Once approved, finish your profile.
  3. 3Add your services with a price and a length.
  4. 4Set your availability and connect payouts.
What does it cost to sell?

Listing is free. Around keeps 10% of your price when a booking happens. You are paid the rest after the session, through Stripe.

Your account

How do I change my details?

Your name, email and phone number are under Personal in your settings.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Log out & delete in your settings.

How is my information used?

Our privacy policy explains what we collect and why. We never store your card details ourselves; payments go through Stripe.

About Around

What is Around?

Around is a place to find and book local creators in New York: photographers, musicians, makers, performers and more.

How do I reach the team?

Email us and a person will read it. Tell us the creator and the date if it is about a booking, so we can help faster.

For creators

Setting up, getting paid through Stripe, pricing and bookings.

Getting set up

What do I need to do before people can book me?

Four things. The setup list in the corner of the app tracks them and ticks each one off as you finish it.

  1. 1Finish your profile.
  2. 2Add at least one service.
  3. 3Set your availability in the calendar.
  4. 4Connect payouts through Stripe.
What does a finished profile need?

A profile photo, at least three overview sections about what you do, at least one rule for working with you, and at least one link to your work, like Instagram or a website, and at least three search tags: words people might type to find you, like headshots or wedding dj.

Getting paid

How do I add my bank account?

Payouts go through Stripe, which handles your bank details securely. Around never sees or stores them.

  1. 1Sign in and open Wallet in your settings.
  2. 2Choose Connect payouts.
  3. 3Stripe asks who you are and for your bank account. Follow its steps.
  4. 4You come back to Around when you are done. Wallet shows that payouts are on.
Can I accept bookings before payouts are connected?

Yes, but we cannot pay you until Stripe is connected. Connect it early so nothing is waiting on you.

When do I get paid?

We send your money a day after the booking is confirmed as done. For your first three bookings, and for any booking over $300, we wait seven days instead. Your bank may then take a few business days to show it.

How much do I keep?

Around keeps 10% of your price. The customer's service fee and the sales tax are paid on top by the customer, so neither comes out of your earnings.

How do I change my bank account?

Open Wallet and go to Stripe from there. Your bank details are changed with Stripe, not in Around.

Services and pricing

How do I add a service?

Give it a name, a price, how long it takes and a short description of 20 to 50 words. Add a photo so it stands out.

Is there a minimum price?

Yes, $25. Card fees take a fixed amount from every payment, so smaller bookings cost more to process than they earn.

Why is my service waiting for review?

Some kinds of services are checked by our team before they go live. We email you as soon as it is done.

Bookings

How do booking requests work?

A customer sends a request for a time you have open. Their card is held but not charged until you accept. Accept or decline from Bookings. If you do not answer, the hold is released.

What happens if I cancel a booking?

The customer always gets a full refund, whatever the timing, and you are not paid for it. Cancel only when you have to, and message the customer to explain.

What do I get if the customer cancels?

It depends on when. A late cancellation within 48 hours of the session means you keep your share. Earlier cancellations refund the customer in full or by half, and your earnings go down by the same share.

Rules for creators

What is not allowed?

Asking customers to pay outside Around, fake or copied work, pretending to be someone else, and hateful, explicit or abusive content. Pages that break these rules are taken down.

Someone reported my page. What happens?

Our team looks at every report. If something needs to change, we email you first.
